Education
MFA, Screenwriting, AFI Conservatory
BA, Film Studies, University of Nevada, Las Vegas
Dylan Shields has been a cinema professor in the LACCD for more than 14 years and has worked in the industry for nearly 30. He grew up as a non-Native on the Duck Valley Indian Reservation in Nevada and Idaho, earned a BA in Film Studies at UNLV, and worked in production in Las Vegas before moving to Los Angeles to earn an MFA in screenwriting at AFI. His industry experience includes years as an executive assistant, manager, production manager, line producer and producer. His first feature film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival.
Dylan secures and manages grants that support advanced films from voices underrepresented in the industry, and that build collaboration between LACC’s cinema and theater departments. Since 2017 he has produced and overseen more than a dozen short films that have been accepted into 15+ festivals and won 7+ awards. Those films have earned hundreds of work credits for students and helped students get into top film schools. His latest, Bag Boys, is a love letter to cinema and a call to amplify Latino voices. He is also producing a feature documentary with an LACC student about the Whitestone Hill Memorial Ride, held each year in North and South Dakota.
