Juan “Stu” Suarez
Audio Engineer
Education
“Stu” is the nickname of Juan Suarez, sound engineer at LACC. He brings decades of music, broadcast and production engineering experience to both the Cinema and Television and Music departments.
His passion for recording started early, when he bought his first 4-track cassette machine at 12. An early adopter of computer-based recording and mixing, he turned that curiosity into a career in sound, from writing and producing cues for blockbuster film trailers to collaborating with hip-hop legend KRS-One.
As a freelancer, Stu has covered the full range of audio work: radio, live television, film production, sound design and post-production. He has designed and built recording studios across Los Angeles, for clients from SiriusXM to private studios, and has explored guitar amplifier circuit design.
At LACC, Stu manages the department’s audio technology: 32 Pro Tools systems, audio post-production bays, a podcast suite, two 7.1 screening rooms and two television studios. As a Pro Tools Certified Instructor, he also teaches music technology as an adjunct professor. Outside work he values hard work balanced with friendship, long hikes, cooking, playing guitar and reading.
