Since 1995, Kenneth Thomas has worked in news and documentary production around the world. He started in Northern California as live news director for the nightly newscasts at a CBS station. During five years in Seattle he helped launch a startup that shot multi-camera rock concerts for the internet. After moving to Los Angeles in 2002 he freelanced widely, shooting red-carpet events for Marvel, shooting and editing behind-the-scenes videos for DVDs, and serving as one of Yanni’s key cinematographers for PBS specials in Florida, Mexico and Egypt. He also directed a music video that aired on MTV’s Headbangers Ball.
After earning his MFA in 2012, Kenneth made Blood, Sweat + Vinyl, the first of three documentaries about indie music culture; the final film is in post-production. He joined LACC’s adjunct faculty in 2018 to teach live TV production and to serve as an Avid Certified Instructor for audio post-production. In fall 2019 he returned to the San Francisco Art Institute to teach his dream class, on David Lynch’s Twin Peaks. He stays active in live multi-camera streaming and is studying to become a Certified Cicerone, which is a fancy way of saying “beer expert.”
